Whirlwinds-No Laughing Matter

Proverbs 1:24- 33 "Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge (of God), and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil." (notation added by author)

I have always been fascinated by the things that make God laugh. Here Solomon describes a situation were the nation has not listened to God's prophets or obeyed His word. In fact they mock and reject Gods instructions. Earlier verses talk of them as loving to scorn God's messengers and hating God's warnings. God calls for their repentance and stretches out His hand to save, but they refuse and mock. Therefore God laughs at their stupidity.

Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children."

As this once Christian country continues to push God out of our society and refuses to turn back to Him, He will not answer when we cry out to Him. America continues to plunge into more and more sexual perversion, drug use, alcoholism, hatred, and rejection of all things good and wholesome. We continue to attack the family unit and our churches preach social issues and avoid the Bible cry against sin.

Therefore we can expect more unprecedented natural disasters. Right now a quarter of the nation is trying to recover from floods caused by the two Cat 4 hericanes that stucck Texas ans Florida, while the West is facing major forest fires.

Even in the time of trouble God still offers help to those who know and love Him as Lord and Saviour. "But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."
